Ustream.tv rocks !
tech, personal March 15th. 2008, 4:36pmOk this is just plain awesome. I had known about this for quite sometime but I actually tested it a few days back and it simply rocks.
Ustream.tv provides live streaming. Yes …directly from your web cam. All you need is an internet connection and a web cam and you can stream your stuff to the whole world.
And we always used to die to come up with some technology to stream our events and shadis (weddings
) online. Previously to buy the bandwidth and IP to get the stream working was way expensive. But now this is fascinating.
You can check me out below (only when I’ll be on air i.e.)

And Yahoo! Live takes it to another level. You can actually live stream your stuff and can video call with 4 other streamers on the same page. And that’s not it…. Qik.com last night struck a deal with Justin.tv which will enable you to live stream stuff directly from your mobile phone. Cool ..eh?

You can put 6 other streamers on your own channel page on Ustream. Check out and play with the “partner show” feature.
Also, “co-host” is another feature you might want to mess around with.

Classic. I just checked out the co-host feature in the demo video (http://newteevee.com/2008/03/13/exclusive-preview-ustream-goes-cohost/) and it’s look pretty fascinating.
Just a suggestion, I’ll reccomend if you move out the partner shows from the Design page and create a separate tab for it. It’s a pretty important functionality and should be made more prominent.
Thanks for the comment

was kinda looking forward to the mobile streaming… too bad it doesn’t support anything else than Nokia right now… lets see how they come out

I wonder if Qik.com restrictions are down to manufacture (Nokia) or OS (symbian).
Yaser, did you try using iMate with it?

You can also check out Kyte.com and Flixwagon.com. Again both support live mobile streaming and both are restricted to Nokia S60 mobiles yet.
Won’t be too long before Windows Mobile get into the game as well.
This is pretty exciting stuff. Imagine Sharjeel/Adil live streaming my distributed systems class directly online to me in Peshawar, I’ll have a long weekend every week
